BRIEF HISTORY of the SVMH Foundation
April, 1972 - Board of Directors of the Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital District created a Declaration of Trust to receive contributions for the Salinas Valley Memorial Fund of the Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital District. An Administrative Committee of nine to twelve members directed the Fund’s activities.
February, 1976 - The first director of development and secretary were hired and offices were located at 212 San Jose Street, Salinas.
May, 1976 - The Board of Directors of the Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital changed the name of the Fund to The Trust Fund for Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital.
April, 1979 – The District Board of Directors approved the Administrative Committee's recommendation to organize an operating foundation separately incorporated from the District.
December, 1979 - Foundation was established with a 34 member Board of Governors.
June, 1980 to Present – The Foundation has successfully operated by encouraging, obtaining and administering donations of funds, properties, bequests, annuities and other instruments of properties of value for the benefit of patients at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital. The Foundation has been involved with the partial funding of all of the Hospital’s centers of excellence including: Harden Memorial Heart Center, Patient Care Center, Joyce Wyman Outpatient Surgery Center, Oncology Center, L.M. Tynan Emergency Center, Norman P. Andresen Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and the medical/surgical areas of the Hospital. |
